YB Teh Lai Heng: Low Fixed Blood Donors In Malaysia With Figure Remained at 3%

(10-12-2017,Penang) Adun for Komtar YB Teh Lai Heng pointed that statistic shows that there has been an increase in number of blood donors. However the number of fixed blood donors has been stagnant at 3% which is low compared to the 5% in other countries.

He said that even though the difference is 2% in the number of fixed blood donors, it is actually quite a significant number. He hoped that all should increase the awareness in donating blood to enable more people to be saved.

He added that there has been some misunderstanding apparatus used in blood donation is recycled where in actual fact the one-time only use and throw practice is adopted. Besides, people also have the wrong concept that one will put on weight in donating blood where it is actually not the case.  

YB Teh who represented YB Phee Boon Poh to attend the 18th Blood Donation Campaign organized by the Society Of The Disabled Persons Penang (SDPP,Youth Group of Un Khuay Hoay Kuan, Youth Group of Buddhist Light International Association (BLIA) Penang Branch and Caring Rehabilitation Society of PWD Penang mentioned during the launching ceremony that the state government is trying to identify more space for the disabled friendly facilities or parking lot for the disabled for the benefits of the disabled group.

He also hoped that the disabled should be treated fairly by the general public. This includes the exercising the social responsibility by the corporate in employing the disabled.¡± The disabled does not want sympathy from the general public but what they expect is fair treatment instead.¡± 

Oh Tong Keong Hoped For More Blood Donation Campaign By More Organization

One of the invited guest, Oh Tong Keng, Vice President of Gerakan Penang commended the noble move by all. He hoped that more organizations, clan associations could organize blood donation campaigns in helping those who are in need of blood.

Teh Lay Kuan: The Disabled Do Contribute To The Society

Dato¡¯ Teh Lay Kuan, President for the Society of Disabled Persons Penang, Among all the barriers that exist in Malaysia context, the key barrier being faced by the disabled is attitudinal barrier due to the low awareness of the general public on the ability of the disabled to contribute to the society and the plight they are in.

She mentioned that only through continuous education only than the awareness towards the disabled can be increased can be improved.
