Blood Donation Campaign
Mr Lai Han Meng, the assistant for Penang
Exco Member YB Phee Boon Poh, pointed out that in the 2011 budget of Penang
state, a RM 2 million fund would be allocated for the disabled. It means that
each disabled person would get a RM 100 annually.
He said that after the state government has given out the senior citizen welfare aid to those over 60 years old, this is the aid and benefit for the disabled, at the same time recognizing the contribution by the disabled to the Penang state.
He also mentioned that currently in the civil service sector, 1% of the posts is allocated to the disabled. There are 46 disabled persons working in departments of the state government.
The president of the Society of Disabled Persons Penang Madam Teh Lay Kuan pointed out that blood donor is the un-sang hero, the savor of the patient. The blood donated by the donors play a very important role in saving life. This example should be followed by all.
She mentioned that in Penang there are still a lot of places and building structures not disabled friendly. She urged the state government and the relevant authorities to at least build a small ramp especially for the wheelchair bound disabled.
She also urged the relevant authorities, owners of new buildings, shopping complexes, supermarkets and hypermarkets to allocate parking bays for the disabled and such allocation should not be used for other purposes and from being abused. She hoped that this point should be taken note of and be improved.
