The President of SDPP, Madam The Lay Kuan in her speech emphasized that the main objective of ˇ°The Mobility Van Projectˇ± is to help the disable solving their transportation problems.

She pointed out that, so far, there is no complete aid transportation system for the disabled in Penang. As such, SDPP had initiated a proposal of "The Mobility Van Project" in order to have a van equipped with facilities that could help to load and unload the disabled in wheelchair. With this type of van, SDPP could ease the transportation problem of its members. For example the van could help to send their members to clinic visit, to school for studying, to work place and etc. SDPP has been planning and hoping for so many years, with the help of the good public, to realize this dream. At the moment of time, SDPP has only one van to provide the services. It is not enough to meet all the needs of the disabled. In view of that "The Mobility Van Project" is catered to the disabled only.

She explained that "The Mobility Van Project" service is open to its members who need the transportation within the Penang Island. The services include sending them to clinic, studying or working; however the van can only accommodate up to six disabled per trip. The time is to be fixed by the disabled. Those who intend to utilize the service, kindly contact SDPP office no. 04-228 1058, three (3) days in advance for booking. Booking time is open from Monday to Friday from 1pm to 5pm; on Saturday from 9am to 1pm respectively. In the event of emergency, SDPP office could be anytime contacted at office hour.

She mentioned that SDPP needs to spend about RM35000 every year for the repairs and maintenance in order to operate "The Mobility Van Project". As such she hoped the public could give continuous support to help SDPP in their daily expenses to ensure the continuation of running "The Mobility Van Project" and to foster the welfare of the disabled.

SDPP also welcomes donations from public and please kindly contact SDPP office which is located at Wisma Penvayang, CO-19-CF & CO-20-GF, Jalan Utama, 10450 Penang, with Telephone & Facsimile No.04-2281058.

YAB Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon has been invited to officiate the launching and he believed that the Penang State government and other government agencies should join together to build more disabled public facilities so as to enhance Penang state as a model state suitable for disabled persons to live.

YAB Tan Sri .Koh Tsu Koon also indicated that, with all the co-operations from the relevant authority, today we have successfully implemented "The Mobility Van Projectˇ±. This is only the beginning and it still needs the effort and support of all parties concerned to effectively purse and uphold the needs of disabled.

YAB Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon also requested those who are interested to support SDPP by donating more funds to reach its goal as planned to enable "The Mobility Van Projectˇ± to be successful.
